Mr. and Mrs. Kappa

So I've wanted to make a Kappa pattern for a long, long time. I finally got around to it the other day! I've made a male and female Kappa :D

Awww!

She has a flower on her head.

And he has standard Kappa leaves.. or whatever those are!

They run a cucumber farm together, of course. :]

Unicorns and Bees!

I've got two (well, three counting the baby bee) new patterns up since my last update! Both can be found on my Etsy, as well as the finished plushies.

First up is a Unicorn with an awesome rainbow mane!

I've been wanting to make a unicorn for a long time now, but was too intimidated to give it a shot. Mostly because the crocheted horses I've seen are a bit... less than cute. I tried really hard to avoid the things I had seen done to make horses and make it as cute as possible. Hopefully I succeeded!

And next is a Bee and its little Baby Bee.

My sister has been pestering me to make a bee for a long time, and I finally got around to it just today. I think they both turned out pretty darn cute! I might make a baby bee for myself and put in on a cell phone charm strap or something.

Format Update

I've updated the format of all of my patterns here to match the format I'm now using for all of my for-sale patterns. The format I was following before was modeled after the format used in a crochet book I often used before I started making my own patterns. However, I can see how it was unnecessarily confusing. So I've started using this new format instead.

For example, before my pattern would have said: rnd 3 - *sc in next 2, 2sc in next. rep from * 5 times.

Seeing as you need to do the sc in next 2, 2sc in next a total of 6 times (once and then repeated 5 times) some people were getting confused on what it all meant.

Now that line will be written as: rnd 3 - [sc in next 2, 2sc in next] 6 times.

I think this makes it a lot clearer that you are supposed to do that section 6 times total and also cleans up the look of the pattern.

So I'm getting back into some serious crafting recently. Finally! I'm done with school for the semester, which means I've got some free time to get to work on crocheting and all that. My sister and I are going to get a table at Anime Fest again this year! I'm working on new patterns and making a good stock of plushies to sell there. Maybe I'll get back on track with this blog and post up progress as I go. Looking at the date of my last post, I think I figured out exactly what happened.. I got a job. January 2010 I started working at a hospital as a Pharmacy Tech. With that and school, my crafting productivity dropped dramatically. Pretty sad stuff.

Anyways! To make it up to you guys (at least a little I hope..) I'm gonna post up another free pattern! My pokeball pattern!! :D This is a very simple one, and you can easily work with it to make other types of pokeballs. Let me know if you need help figuring out how to make a certain type, I'll see what I can do.

POKEBALL AND VARIATIONS

MATERIALS
-size F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook
-worsted weight yarn in chosen colors (For pokeball: A-white, B-red, black for midline. For masterball: A-white, B-purple, black for midline, pink for bumps)
-scraps of yarn and felt for details, if desired
-yarn needle
-fiberfil or other stuffing
-stitch marker

Worked in rounds, do not join rounds unless stated. Place marker in beginning of each round to keep track of rounds.

BALL
[start with color A]
rnd 1 - sc 8 in ring. (8) [I use the magic adjustable ring technique, but you can also just ch 2 and then sc 8 in the second ch.]
rnd 2 - 2sc in each sc around. (16)
rnd 3 - [sc in next, 2sc in next] 8 times. (24)
rnd 4 - [sc in next 2, 2sc in next] 8 times. (32)
rnd 5-6 - sc around.

FOR MASTERBALL - PINK BUMPS (make 2)

TO ASSEMBLE
For the pokeball, all you need to align the button with the midline of the pokeball and sew it on! For the masterball, sew the button on, then align the pink bumps on the top of the ball. Sew the bumps on. Finally use white yarn to embroider on the "M". You can follow this pokeball template to make all sorts of different types of pokeballs. Let me know if you'd like help figuring out how to make a certain type!

Cupcake Pattern

MATERIALS

- pink felt
- fiberfil or other stuffing

sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
sl - slip stitch

CAKE

rnd 1 - sc 6 in ring. (6)
rnd 2 - 2sc into each sc around. (12)
rnd 3 - [sc in next, 2sc in next] 6 times. (18)
rnd 4 - [sc in next 2, 2sc in next] 6 times. join. (24)
rnd 5 - sc in back loops around. join.
rnd 6 - sc around.
rnd 7 - [sc in next 11, 2sc in next] twice. (26)

ASSEMBLY
Attach saftey eyes to cake base, glue on felt patches, and add any other desired details. Begin sewing the frosting to the cake using the inside of the scalloped edge. Stuff as you go. Finish sewing the frosting to the cake, and you're done! These guys are quick to make, so make a whole rainbow of cupcakes!!

Teddy Bear

Here's another bear I made with my bear pattern, the same one used for the panda. I'm trying to make a few different types to show the versatility of the pattern. I'm almost done with the third addition, a polar bear. And with that, I think I'll have a pretty well rounded showing of bears that will appeal to many different people!

Panda Plushie and Alice Doll

So I was pretty busy crocheting this weekend! I made a few more of some things I already have patterns for, but I also made a couple new patterns.

Here's my first attempt at a human doll, Alice in Wonderland!

And something I'm more familiar with making, an animal. I should have made a panda a long time ago! Why'd I wait so long??

As my sister would say, "It's so cute, I almost died!"

I hope you guys like them! I think I'm going to work on a regular brown bear next.

Star Pattern

Here's a free pattern for everyone! Now you can make your own cute stars.

NOTE: If you want them to look like the small yellow ones on the blue background, stop at round 6.

Star Pattern

MATERIALS
-size H crochet hook
-worsted weight yarn in color of choice
-9mm safety eyes
-fiberfill or stuffing of choice
-scraps of yarn for details, if desired
-yarn needle
-stitch marker

STITCH GUIDE
ch- chain
sc- single crochet
sk- skip stitch
dec- decrease
sc3tog- single chain three together- draw up a loop through
each of 3 next stitches. Yarn over, and pull through all 4 loops.

Worked in rounds. Do not join unless stated. Place stitch marker in
beginning of each round to keep track of rounds.

STAR (make 2)
rnd 1 - ch 5 in ring (5) [I use the magic adjustable ring technique
but you can also just ch 2 and work 5 sc into the second chain.]

Sew or attach details to one half if desired. Align two halves and sew around

Commissions - Voltorb and Masterball

A girl from one of my classes was kind enough to commission me to make her a couple of Pokemon items! I had already done a Masterball commission at AnimeFest, but since I had a lot more time to work with this one I decided to change a few things up to see if it would look nicer. For the Voltorb, my biggest challenge was figuring out how to do the eyes. I didn't want to just glue some white felt on, and I also didn't want to do what my commissioner suggested: just use black saftey eyes. I think my solution turned out pretty well!

Jellyfish + AFest report

Hey everyone! I know it's been a while but I was a little burnt out after AFest.. I only just managed to get my act together and start making things again. School hasn't been helping either, of course.

SO! First off, I never let you all know how Anime Fest went. This was the first con my sister and I had ever ran a booth at, so we were pretty worried that it wouldn't go well. BUT, we found out that our worries were completely wrong! So yay! Things went great. We had way more sales than we expected, and for some of my items I could have sold more if I just had more :[ Good and bad. But that just means I've got to constantly work on building up my con stockpile. I don't have much left right now, and it's going to be hard to make things with school going on, but I'm going to try my best and see what I can come up with!

Alright, now onto my most recent crafting update. I've made a couple things with my existing patterns, like more octopi (they were suuuper popular) and another lion. But just yesterday I finished my first all knew item. A wonderfully adorable jellyfish friend!! Here's a quick picture I took after finishing it last night:

So I hope you guys like him! I'm going to put more effort into this blog from now on, because I've been neglecting it in favor of deviantart and whatnot, but I see I've got a few people watching me and I'd hate to disappoint!

Anime Fest!

How's everyone doing? I know it's been quite a while since I last updated, but my sister and I have been hard at work trying to stockpile a lot of our plushies and things. We're going to have a booth at Anime Fest together!! It's in Dallas and runs from Sept. 4th-7th. Please stop by if you'll be in the area!

I'll make a new post soon with an abundance of pictures, but I've got a lot of new things that haven't been photographed yet, and a few half-finished projects that mostly need to be sewn together.

So just know I haven't died or anything, I just haven't gotten around to updating many of my online things.

New Pictures

So I don't really have any new plushies to show off at the moment. :[ I've only made some more foxes recently, but you've all seen them already! I've got some other friend requests waiting to be made though. A cuttlefish and penguin for one guy and maybe a blanket or pillow with the Superman sheild on it for another. I've gotta work out how they want them to look and all, but hopefully I'll be able to start work on them soon. Plus if the cuttlefish and penguin turn out well, that'll mean new patterns for my shop!

Speaking of patterns, I've gotta test out all of my sweets patterns and make a few new ones. I'd really like to be able to have a "Sweets Collection" line for my shop! So look forward to that soon too. Patterns for pie, cake, tarts, flan, things like that. :D And all with cute faces, of course. Maybe I should have a junkfood line, or geek food or something to follow along with the Ramen Cup everyone seems to like so much.

Anyway, let's get to what the title of this post is about. I know some of my old pictures aren't the best, and the new ones aren't really either. I picked up some stuff so I could have flat color backgrounds for my plushies instead of the distracting patterned ones. However, I've been having a really hard time dealing with the shinyness of the yarn. It's pretty obvious if you look at the cat plushie. Some colors will come out fine, but then others like the pink seem to reflect light almost blindingly D:! If anyone has any tips on taking pictures of plushies, please let me know. Good pictures go a long way in helping to make sales, and I'd like people to be able to enjoy the pictures as much as they would the item in real life. I've put up the new pictures in my shop, at least temporarily until I figure what I should do about them. Please take a look at http://syppah.etsy.com and let me know what you think! The new ones are the ones with brightly colored backgrounds. I have not yet updated some of them, such as the cake and pie.

Sad Robot

My boyfriend's older brother asked if I could crochet something for him. When I asked what it was that he wanted made he just said, "A sad robot." Haha, I'm not sure why exactly he wants one, but I finally finished it yesterday. The poor thing had been sitting around legless for over a week! Anyway, here it is:

I'm certainly no robot expert, so it's not a very sophisticated robot, haha. Maybe that's why it's sad? Well, I hope he likes it... I'm still not sure what he was expecting, so I'm a little worried.

Hen and Chick

So, my next project was making a cute hen and her chick. I think they turned out pretty adorable. I ended up making a whole new pattern for the bodies, but I based the wings off of the wings on my owl since I liked the shape and how poseable they were. Anyway, here they are!

Mushroom Trio

Yep, another food inspired crochet project. This time I got it in my head that I needed to make a group of three mushrooms. I just thought it would be cuter if they were a group. Anyway, here they are:

I'm very happy with how they turned out, and I almost made them without having to do any parts over. The fat one was the biggest problem. (haha >.>; ) I was about halfway done with the cap when I realized it was becoming pointy, kind of like the small one. But I wanted a flat topped cap! So, I had to unravel and start over. It worked out the second time though! Ramen

So I was sitting around bored and hungry yesterday, and decided to have a quick ramen snack. While the noodles were boiling an idea came to me! My next crochet project should be a little ramen cup!!

So I sat down and started working on it. I was even a good girl and kept track of what I was doing this time. My poor foxes and owls, I don't think I'll ever replicate them! ;_; But I suppose that another story and another project. So anyway, it all went pretty smoothly and turned out well!

I'm pretty confident in this pattern even without testing it, but I'm going to work on another ramen cup or two today to make sure that there aren't any problems. Wish me luck!
